Luke 6:35-36

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6:35-36

Mission Briefing

Love Even the Difficult Ones

Loving your friends is easy – but what about people who are mean to you or make your life hard? Jesus gives us one of His most surprising challenges here: love your enemies! And He gives us a very good reason why. This mission explores Luke 6:35-36.

What Does Luke 6:35-36 Mean?

Jesus is turning the world’s rules upside down. Most people love those who love them back. But Jesus says to love even those who do not deserve it, because that is exactly what God does – He is kind even to people who are ungrateful or do wrong. When we love our enemies and help without expecting anything back, we look like our Heavenly Father.

Hero Challenge

Think of someone who has been unkind or unfair to you. This week, do one genuinely kind thing for that person – no strings attached, expecting nothing back. Then notice how God strengthens your heart when you choose love over resentment.

Did You Know?

This teaching is part of what is often called Jesus’s “Sermon on the Plain” in Luke – similar to the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew. Jesus repeated these teachings in different places because He knew they were among the hardest things for people to actually live out. They require supernatural help – which is exactly why He calls us to pray and trust God in the process.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Is there someone who has not been very nice to you? How could you do something kind for them anyway?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Jesus says God is kind even to ungrateful and evil people. How does knowing that help you find the strength to be kind to people who do not deserve it?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Loving enemies does not mean pretending bad behavior is okay. How can you love someone who has wronged you while still being honest about how their actions affected you?

♥ Mission Prayer

Father, it is hard to love people who are unkind to me. But You are kind even to people who do not deserve it, and I want to be like You. Help me today to love even the difficult people in my life, and give me Your strength to do it. Amen.
