Mission Briefing
Big Faithfulness Starts Small
Do you ever feel like what you do doesn’t matter because you’re young, or because it’s just a small thing? Here’s what Jesus says: the small things matter MORE than you think. How you handle little things is exactly how you’ll handle big things one day. Faithfulness is always built one small choice at a time! This mission explores Luke 16:10.
What Does Luke 16:10 Mean?
In Luke 16:10, Jesus is teaching about stewardship – but He starts with something surprising. He doesn’t start with money or big responsibilities. He starts with “a very little.” The principle is simple and sobering: character is consistent. A person who is honest and reliable with small things will be honest and reliable when much more is at stake. And the reverse is equally true – dishonesty in small things is a warning sign. This means every small choice counts: how you handle a dollar, a chore, homework, or a secret your friend told you. Those daily moments are training you for the bigger responsibilities ahead.
Hero Challenge
Pick one small area of your life where you could be MORE faithful this week – maybe finishing homework without reminders, keeping your room clean, being honest when you make a mistake, or following through on a promise. Do it for seven days straight. At the end of the week, notice how it feels to be someone others can count on in even the small things.
Did You Know?
In ancient households, a servant who managed small tasks well was the one who would eventually be trusted with managing the entire estate. Jesus’s original audience would have instantly understood this real-world dynamic. Trustworthiness was a career – it was built slowly over time through consistent, small acts of faithfulness. Jesus was saying: God sees your small faithful acts and they are preparing you for something greater.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If you always remember to put away your toys, do you think people will trust you with bigger responsibilities? Why is being responsible with small things so important?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Jesus says being faithful in little things leads to being trusted with much. Can you think of a time when someone trusted you with more because you were reliable with something small first?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Luke 16:10 says character is consistent – dishonesty in small things reveals dishonesty in bigger things. How does this idea challenge you personally? What small area of your life might need more faithfulness right now, and what steps will you take?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, help me to be faithful in the small things — the everyday choices that feel unimportant but actually shape who I am. Grow my character one honest, reliable moment at a time, and help me to be someone You and others can count on.
