Mission Briefing
More Stuff Isn’t Everything!
Have you ever wanted something SO badly – a new toy, a new game, the coolest backpack – and thought you’d be so happy if you only had it? Jesus had something really important to say about that feeling! This mission explores Luke 12:15.
What Does Luke 12:15 Mean?
Covetousness means always wanting more and thinking more stuff will make you happy. Jesus warned His followers to watch out for that sneaky feeling! He said that the real good stuff in life – like love, friendship, and knowing God – can’t be bought or collected. Having lots of things doesn’t make someone truly alive or truly happy inside.
Hero Challenge
This week, make a “grateful list” of ten things you already have that make your life great – things like your family, a friend who makes you laugh, or your favorite food. Read the list out loud every day and notice how your heart feels a little fuller each time!
Did You Know?
Jesus said this after someone asked Him to settle an argument about money in their family. Instead of jumping into the argument, Jesus pointed to the bigger problem – hearts that were focused on getting more instead of being grateful. He always got right to the heart of the matter!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Can you name three things you already have that make you happy? (Hint: think about people, not just toys!)
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Have you ever gotten something you really wanted and then felt like it wasn’t as great as you thought it would be? What does that tell you about what really makes us happy?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Our world says that owning more things equals a better life. How does Luke 12:15 challenge that idea, and what does Jesus say a truly rich life actually looks like?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, help me to be grateful for what I already have and not always want more. Remind me that the best things in life aren't things at all. Fill my heart with thankfulness today.
