Mission Briefing
The Mighty One Does Great Things!
These words come from one of the most beautiful songs in the whole Bible – sung by a young girl named Mary when she found out she would be the mother of Jesus! Let’s discover the song of a hero who recognized how GREAT her God truly was! This mission explores Luke 1:49.
What Does Luke 1:49 Mean?
Mary was a young woman – probably around your age or not much older – when the angel Gabriel told her she had been chosen to carry the Son of God. Instead of freezing up with fear, she burst into praise! She called God “He who is mighty” and celebrated all the great things He had done for her. She also said His name is holy – which means set apart, perfect, and beyond anything we can fully imagine.
Hero Challenge
Mary didn’t wait until everything made sense to praise God – she praised Him right in the middle of something surprising and overwhelming! This week, practice praising God even when things are confusing or hard. Write or say out loud: “God, You are mighty, and I trust You!”
Did You Know?
Mary’s song is called the “Magnificat” – which comes from the Latin word for “magnify.” When Mary said she would magnify God, she meant she wanted to make God look as BIG and wonderful as He really is! The Magnificat is one of the oldest recorded songs of praise in the entire New Testament and has been set to music thousands of times throughout history.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Mary sang a happy song to God when something amazing happened. What good thing has God done for you that makes you want to sing?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Mary praised God before she even fully understood everything that was happening. Why is it powerful to praise God even when we don’t have all the answers?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Mary said God’s name is “holy.” What does holiness mean to you, and how does remembering God’s holiness change the way you approach Him in prayer and in daily life?
♥ Mission Prayer
