Mission Briefing
Leviticus 20:26 is God speaking to His people, and the words are incredible: “You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart… to be my own.” Set apart. That phrase is huge. It means God looked at the whole world and said: “These ones? They’re MINE.” Like how you might set aside your favourite book so nobody else uses it. Or how your parent might set aside a special piece of cake just for you. Being set apart isn’t about being better than everyone else – it’s about belonging to Someone specific, on purpose.
Holiness can sound like a scary, old-fashioned word. But really it just means being different in the way God designed. Not weird for the sake of being weird – but genuinely other. Choosing kindness when everyone’s being mean. Telling the truth when lying would be easier. Standing up for someone when the crowd isn’t. That’s what being set apart looks like in real life. God called you His own – and that changes how you live, how you talk, how you treat people, and who you decide to be.
What Does Leviticus 20:26 Mean?
You have been set apart by the God of the universe. That’s not a small thing. It means your life has a different aim – to show what God is like through how you live. You don’t have to blend in with everything around you. You get to be different for a reason. Holiness isn’t a rule. It’s an identity. You’re His.
Mission Activity
Take a blank piece of paper and write your name in the middle in big letters. Around it, write or draw things that make you different as someone who belongs to God – kindness, truth-telling, praying, helping others. Decorate it however you like. Then at the top, write: “Set apart – I am His.” Pin it up where you get ready in the morning as a daily reminder of who you are. (Note: the verse above is paraphrased to help younger readers connect with its meaning. The original is Leviticus 20:26 NIV.)
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, thank You that You chose me and set me apart as Your own. Help me live like I belong to You — different from the crowd when it matters. I want my life to show who You are. Amen.
