Lamentations 3:21-23

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:21-23

Mission Briefing

Every Morning Comes with New Mercy!

Have you ever woken up in the morning and felt like yesterday’s mistakes or sadness were still hanging over you? Here’s one of the most beautiful truths in the entire Bible – God’s mercies are BRAND NEW every single morning. Yesterday’s worries don’t carry over. His love never runs out!

What Does This Mean?

Lamentations was written during one of the darkest times in Israel’s history – the city of Jerusalem had been destroyed and the people were devastated. In the middle of all that pain, the writer made a choice – he called something to mind on purpose. He remembered God’s steadfast love and mercies. And those mercies, he realized, were not running out. They were fresh every single morning. No matter how bad yesterday was, today comes with a new supply of God’s love and mercy.

Hero Challenge

For the next seven mornings, write one word when you first wake up – it could be “mercy,” “grace,” “fresh,” or whatever feels right. Let it be a reminder that God’s mercies are new today. At the end of the week, look at your seven words and thank God for each new morning He gave you.

Did You Know?

The book of Lamentations is one of the saddest books in the Bible – it is a series of poems mourning the destruction of Jerusalem. Yet right in the middle of all that grief, the writer stops and chooses hope. Lamentations 3:22-23 is often called the “heart” of the book – a bright light shining in the darkest chapter. It shows us that even in our worst moments, we can choose to remember God’s faithfulness.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Every morning God gives you new mercy – like a fresh gift! What is something you want to thank God for this morning?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

The writer says he “called this to mind” on purpose. Why do you think we sometimes have to remind ourselves of what we know to be true about God?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

This passage was written during enormous suffering – yet it contains some of the most hope-filled words in Scripture. What does that tell you about the relationship between pain and faith? Can real hope only come from having gone through hard things?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, thank You that Your mercies are new every morning and Your love never runs out. Help me to wake up every day remembering Your faithfulness. No matter what happened yesterday, today is a fresh start with You. Amen.
