Mission Briefing

There Is Nowhere Else to Go

Have you ever been completely certain about something – so certain that you could not imagine choosing anything else? That is exactly how Peter felt about Jesus. When others walked away, Peter had a response that still echoes through history: “Lord, where else would we even go?” This mission explores John 6:68.

What Does John 6:68 Mean?

Just before this moment, Jesus had said some things that were very hard for people to accept, and a large group of His followers left. Jesus turned to His twelve closest disciples and asked them: “Do you want to leave too?” Peter’s answer was not a polished speech – it was raw, real, and from the heart. He knew that no matter how confusing or hard the teachings of Jesus might be, they were still the only words that led to true life. Walking away from Jesus would mean walking toward emptiness.

Hero Challenge

Think about a time when following Jesus felt hard, confusing, or unpopular. Write a short note to yourself – like Peter’s answer – explaining why you choose to stay. Keep it somewhere safe and read it the next time following Jesus feels difficult. Your own words of conviction can be a powerful reminder when doubts show up.

Did You Know?

Peter was known for speaking before he thought – sometimes getting it very wrong. But in this moment, he got it exactly right. Interestingly, just moments later in John’s gospel, Jesus would say that one of the twelve would betray Him (referring to Judas). Peter’s confident declaration shows that faithful commitment is not about being perfect – it is about choosing Jesus again and again, even when it is hard.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Peter said Jesus had words of life. What is something Jesus said that makes you feel loved or safe?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Some people walked away from Jesus when His teaching got hard. Why do you think Peter chose to stay? What would you have done?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Peter does not say “I stay because I understand everything” – he stays because there is nowhere better to go. What does that kind of loyalty look like in real life? How do you keep following Jesus even in the seasons when you do not have all the answers?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord Jesus, when things get confusing or hard, remind me of Peter's words — where else would I go? You have the words of life, and I choose to stay close to You. Help me keep following even when I do not understand everything. Amen.
