Mission Briefing
God Moved Into Our Neighborhood
What if the most powerful being in the universe decided to leave His perfect home and move in next door to you – just to be with you? That’s essentially what happened when Jesus came to earth, and it’s the most incredible story ever told! This mission explores John 1:14.
What Does John 1:14 Mean?
John opens his Gospel by calling Jesus “the Word” – meaning Jesus is God’s ultimate message, His clearest communication to the world. “Became flesh” means Jesus became fully human – with a real body, real emotions, and real experiences. “Dwelt among us” literally means He pitched His tent with us, moved into our world. And when He did, people could see God’s own glory shining through Him – full of grace (undeserved love) and truth (the real deal, no pretending)!
Hero Challenge
Jesus showed us what God is truly like. This week, read one story from the Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John – and notice one thing Jesus did that reveals what God’s grace and truth look like in action. Share what you found with your family at dinner!
Did You Know?
The Gospel of John begins just like Genesis – “In the beginning…” That’s on purpose! John wanted readers to see that Jesus’s coming was as significant as the creation of the world. The Greek word for “dwelt” in this verse comes from the word for “tent” or “tabernacle” – the same portable meeting place where God’s presence lived among the Israelites in the wilderness!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Jesus came to live with us! Why do you think God wanted to come and be close to us instead of staying far away?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
John says Jesus was “full of grace and truth.” What does each of those words mean? Why do you think both are important together?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Jesus – fully God – chose to become fully human. How does knowing that Jesus truly experienced human life (tiredness, sadness, temptation) change the way you relate to Him in prayer?
♥ Mission Prayer
Jesus, thank You for leaving heaven and coming to live with us. It means so much that You chose to be close. Help me to see Your grace and truth every day and share it with others. Amen.
