Mission Briefing
It’s Never Too Late to Come Back
Have you ever walked away from a friend and felt sad about it later? God understands that feeling – and He always keeps the door wide open for us to come back to Him, no matter what! This mission explores Joel 2:12-13.
What Does Joel 2:12-13 Mean?
The prophet Joel delivered this message to people who had drifted far away from God. Even in that difficult moment, God said “return to me with all your heart” – not just through outward rituals, but with a real change on the inside. God’s character is described right here: gracious, merciful, patient, and overflowing with love. No matter how far we’ve wandered, He welcomes us back with open arms!
Hero Challenge
Take five minutes today to be quiet and honest with God. Is there anything you’ve been putting off – a wrong attitude, a bad habit, or a time when you ignored what you knew was right? Tell God about it sincerely, and thank Him for always being ready to welcome you back.
Did You Know?
In ancient times, tearing your clothes (“rending garments”) was a way people showed deep sadness or repentance. God told the people through Joel that He cares more about a changed heart than an outward action. This was a revolutionary idea – God wanted their hearts, not just their performance!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
When you do something wrong and say sorry, does God forgive you? What does this verse say about how God feels when you come back to Him?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
God says He is “slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” What do those words mean to you? How does knowing this make you want to respond to God?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
God says to return “with all your heart” – not just with outward actions. What’s the difference between looking repentant and truly being repentant? How can you make sure your heart change is real?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, thank You for always keeping the door open for me to come back to You. Help me to return to You with my whole heart today and every day. Amen.
