Isaiah 53:7

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth.

Mission Briefing

Silent Strength

Have you ever been blamed for something you didn’t do and wanted so badly to yell the truth? Imagine having the power to stop everything – armies, storms, death itself – and choosing to stay completely silent instead. That’s what Jesus did, and it took more strength than any shout ever could. This mission explores Isaiah 53:7.

What Does Isaiah 53:7 Mean?

Isaiah wrote these words about 700 years before Jesus was born, and they describe exactly what happened at Jesus’ trial. He was oppressed – treated cruelly and unjustly. He was afflicted – suffering deeply. But He chose not to defend Himself or fight back, even though He had every right and every power to do so. This wasn’t weakness. It was the most courageous act of silent strength in history, done out of love for us.

Hero Challenge

This week, practice “silent strength.” When someone blames you unfairly or says something unkind, resist the urge to fire back immediately. Take three deep breaths and choose your response carefully – or choose not to respond at all. Staying calm when everything in you wants to react is one of the rarest and most powerful hero skills you can build.

Did You Know?

When Jesus stood before Pilate and the religious leaders, the Gospel of Matthew records that He remained silent so long that Pilate was “greatly amazed” (Matthew 27:14). Pilate had never seen anything like it. Accused men usually pleaded and argued for their lives. Jesus’ silence was so unusual and so powerful that even the Roman governor was taken aback by it.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Jesus stayed quiet and didn’t yell back even when people were mean to Him. Can you think of a time when it’s hard to stay quiet and calm?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why do you think Jesus chose NOT to defend Himself even though He could have? What does that tell you about how much He loves us?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Isaiah 53:7 was written hundreds of years before Jesus was born. What does the fact that Jesus fulfilled this prophecy exactly tell you about God’s plan and purpose in history?

♥ Mission Prayer

Jesus, thank You for choosing silent strength when You could have used power to save Yourself. Help me to stay calm and strong in hard moments and to trust God's plan even when I don't understand it. Amen.
