Mission Briefing
Some promises are easy to make when everything is calm. Isaiah 43:2 is a promise God makes for the hard moments – the ones that feel like you are walking through water so deep it might sweep you away, or through something so hot it feels like it could burn you up. God does not promise that those moments will not come. What He promises is something better: when you go through them, He goes with you. You will not drown. You will not be consumed. He will be right there.
That is not a small promise. Think about the hardest thing you have ever been through – or the hardest thing someone you love has faced. Did it feel like too much? God’s word here says: even that was not too much, because He was in it with you. And whatever is coming – whatever rivers or fires are ahead – He will be in those too. Perseverance is not about being tough enough to get through alone. It is about knowing you are never alone, and keeping going because of that.
What Does Isaiah 43:2 Mean?
Is there something hard you are in the middle of right now – something that feels like too much? Read Isaiah 43:2 again slowly. God is speaking it directly to you, not just to people in the Bible. He is saying: I am with you in this. You are not going to be swept away. Keep going. That promise has your name on it.
Mission Activity
Fill a bowl with water and place a small object in it (a cork, a bottle cap, something that floats). Push it down – it bobs back up. Talk about how that is like us when hard things come: God keeps us from going under. Then write Isaiah 43:2 on a card and put it somewhere in your home where the person who needs it most will see it this week. (Note: the verse above is paraphrased to help younger readers connect with its meaning. The original is Isaiah 43:2 NIV.)
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, thank You that You never leave me alone in the hard things. When it feels like too much, remind me that You are right here with me — in the middle of it, not just watching from far away. Help me to keep going because I know You are with me. Amen.
