Winning feels good. There is nothing wrong with that. The question is what you do in the moment after – when someone nearby is struggling with the very thing you just got right. That moment is where humility either shows up or does not.
Jessie just won the lasso contest. Across the yard, young Billy is tangled in his rope and trying not to show how frustrated he is. Jessie could walk away on a high. He could also do something else. In six minutes, your child discovers what humility looks like not as defeat – but as the quiet strength of someone who knows they do not need to stay on top to feel whole.
