Daniel

This Daniel Bible story for kids tells of a young man who remained faithful to God while serving responsibly in foreign kingdoms. After Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room, where the windows opened towards Jerusalem.

Three times that day, Daniel got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to God – just as he had done before. The officials found him praying and asking God for help.

Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den, but God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths. The following morning, Daniel was lifted from the den without a wound.

Who Was Daniel?

Daniel was a young man from Judah’s royal or noble families when Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem and took captives to Babylon.

Daniel and several other young men were selected for training in the language and literature of the Babylonians. They received new names and were assigned food and wine from the king’s table.

Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal provisions. Rather than responding recklessly, he respectfully asked permission and proposed a ten-day test using vegetables and water.

God gave Daniel knowledge and understanding, including the ability to understand visions and dreams. Daniel served during Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, interpreted the writing on the wall for Belshazzar and later became one of three senior administrators under Darius.

Daniel distinguished himself through his exceptional qualities, and Darius planned to place him over the entire kingdom. Daniel also prospered during the reigns of Darius and Cyrus.

The administrators investigated Daniel’s conduct in government affairs but could find no corruption or negligence. He was trustworthy in his responsibilities, so they concluded that any accusation would have to concern his obedience to God.

What This Daniel Bible Story Teaches Kids

Daniel remained faithful to God while learning, working and serving within foreign kingdoms. He did not reject every instruction or cultural difference. He participated in Babylonian training and later served responsibly in government.

However, Daniel maintained clear boundaries when an instruction would compromise his obedience to God. He respectfully requested different food, credited God when interpreting mysteries and continued praying when a decree directly prohibited it.

Daniel combined conviction with wisdom, tact and faithful service. His story teaches children that courage is not opposing every rule they dislike. Biblical courage means continuing to honour God truthfully and wisely when genuine pressure makes obedience difficult.

God rescued Daniel from the lions in this particular account. Daniel’s story does not make prayer or faithfulness a formula guaranteeing that believers will always escape danger.
