Diligent Rest Seekers: Working Hard to Enter God’s Rest
Verse Of The Day:
"Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience." (Hebrews 4:11)
Imagine playing a fun game of tag, where the goal is to reach a safe place where you can finally rest. You run as fast as you can, avoiding obstacles and staying focused so you can make it to the safe zone. Hebrews 4:11 tells us that, just like in the game, we need to put effort into entering God’s rest—His special place of peace and safety for our hearts and souls.
God’s rest is available to everyone, but we need to work hard to stay close to Him by following His teachings. This doesn’t mean we have to work to earn God’s love, but it means we should be focused on living in a way that honors God. When we are obedient to His Word, we experience the peace and joy that come from resting in Him.
But we need to be careful! The verse reminds us not to follow the example of disobedience, like people in the Bible who didn’t listen to God. Instead, we should stay on track, keep doing what’s right, and focus on reaching God’s perfect rest. It takes effort, but it’s worth it, because God’s rest gives us peace that nothing else can!
Rest Road Map:
Create a “Rest Road Map” at home! On a large sheet of paper, draw a path that leads to a resting place, like a cozy tent or house. Along the path, write or draw things you can do to stay on the right track, like “Pray,” “Read the Bible,” “Help Others,” and “Obey God.” Decorate the resting place at the end of the path to represent God’s peace. Each day, look at your map to remind yourself of the things you can do to stay focused on entering God’s rest. This craft helps kids understand that reaching God’s rest is a journey that takes effort and obedience.
Time For A Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for the gift of Your rest. Help us to stay focused on following You and making every effort to live in a way that pleases You. Teach us to avoid distractions and disobedience, and to work hard to reach the peace and joy that come from resting in You. May our hearts always seek Your perfect rest. Amen.
