Mission Briefing
Work Hard to Rest Right
Wait – does the Bible really tell us to work hard at resting? That sounds strange, but this verse is one of the most powerful challenges in the New Testament – and it totally makes sense once you dig in! This mission explores Hebrews 4:11.
What Does Hebrews 4:11 Mean?
This verse is asking us to make a real effort to trust God – fully and completely – instead of being like the Israelites in the desert who kept doubting and disobeying even after seeing God do miracles. “Entering God’s rest” means choosing to trust God’s promises instead of leaning on our own understanding. It takes real effort to fight off worry, doubt, and the urge to take control. Trusting God is a discipline, not just a feeling.
Hero Challenge
Identify one area of your life where you find it hardest to trust God and let go of control. This week, make a deliberate decision every morning to hand that area over to God in prayer. Notice what happens in your heart when you practice this intentional trust.
Did You Know?
The Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years – when the journey should have taken about 11 days! Their disobedience and unbelief kept them from entering the Promised Land. The writer of Hebrews uses that story as a warning: don’t let doubt and disobedience keep you from the peace and rest God has for you.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
When something feels scary, what can you do to remember that God is taking care of you?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Why do you think trusting God takes effort? What makes it hard sometimes to just let God be in charge?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
The Israelites saw miracle after miracle but still struggled to trust God. How does that speak to us today? What daily practices help you actively choose to trust God even when you can’t see what He’s doing?

♥ Mission Prayer
God, help me to work hard at trusting You — to choose rest in Your promises instead of living in worry and doubt. I want to be someone who fully believes that You are in control. Keep my heart from the disobedience that comes from not trusting You.
