Mission Briefing
Run Your Race!
Picture a giant stadium packed with cheering fans – and YOU are the runner on the track! That’s the incredible picture the Bible paints for your faith journey. You’ve got an enormous crowd cheering you on! This mission explores Hebrews 12:1.
What Does Hebrews 12:1 Mean?
The “cloud of witnesses” are all the faithful people from the Bible – people like Abraham, Moses, Ruth, and David – who finished their race and now cheer for us from heaven! “Lay aside every weight” means getting rid of anything slowing you down – bad habits, bad attitudes, or wrong choices. A runner doesn’t carry heavy backpacks during a race! God wants us to run the unique race He’s set before each of us with endurance – which means not giving up even when we’re tired.
Hero Challenge
Think about one “weight” – maybe a bad habit, a grudge, or something that distracts you from God – and decide to let it go this week. Write it on a piece of paper and then tear it up as a symbol of laying it aside. Ask God to help you run lighter!
Did You Know?
Hebrews 11 (right before this verse) lists many incredible faith heroes and what they did for God. That whole chapter is called the “Hall of Faith.” Chapter 12 then says – NOW it’s YOUR turn to run! You are the next chapter in this amazing story of faith.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If you were in a race and someone was cheering just for you, how would that make you feel? God has a whole crowd cheering you on!
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What do you think a “weight” that slows down your faith race might look like in your life?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
The verse says to run “with endurance” – not speed. Why do you think endurance matters more than speed in the faith life? What helps you keep going when you feel tired?
♥ Mission Prayer
God, thank You for all the faith heroes who ran before me and cheer me on. Help me to drop anything that slows me down and run the race You have for me with all my heart. I won't give up! Amen.
