Mission Briefing
Everyone is carrying something. The friend who seems totally fine at school might be dealing with something hard at home. The sibling who is being extra annoying might actually be overwhelmed and not know how to say it. In Galatians 6:2, Paul says: “Carry each other’s burdens” – and in doing so, you actually fulfil the law of Christ. The law of Christ is love. So carrying someone else’s weight IS love, in action, in the real world.
Imagine you’re hiking with a backpack that’s way too heavy for you. Your legs are shaking, your back aches, and every step is hard. Now imagine a friend coming alongside you and saying “Can I take some of that?” – and actually doing it. That’s what this verse is talking about. You might not be able to fix someone’s problem. But you can sit with them. You can listen. You can help with the practical stuff. You can pray with them. You can say “I see you, and you don’t have to carry this alone.”
What Does Galatians 6:2 Mean?
We live in a culture that celebrates being strong and independent – “I don’t need help, I’ve got this.” But Galatians says we were made to need each other. Asking for help and offering help are both acts of courage. You don’t have to fix everything for someone else. You just have to show up. And when you do, you’re not just being a good friend – you’re fulfilling the very heart of Jesus’s love.
Mission Activity
Think of one person in your life who seems to be carrying something heavy right now. On a piece of paper, write their name and one specific thing you could do to help carry their load this week – visit them, write them a note, do one of their chores, listen to them without your phone. Then actually do it. Tell no one else (that’s the humility part). Notice how it feels to carry someone else’s burden.
♥ Mission Prayer
Dear God, open my eyes to the people around me who are carrying something heavy right now. Give me the courage to actually help — not just to notice and walk on. Teach me to be the kind of friend, sibling, and community member who shows up. That's how I live out Your love. Amen.
