Mission Briefing
Walk with the Spirit Every Day!
Inside every person there are two paths – one pulls us toward things that hurt us and others, and one leads us toward life and goodness. The amazing news? God gives us His Holy Spirit to help us choose the right path every single day! This mission explores Galatians 5:16.
What Does Galatians 5:16 Mean?
“Walk by the Spirit” means living each day guided by God’s Holy Spirit – listening to His leading, following His nudges, and asking Him to direct our choices. “The desires of the flesh” are the wrong cravings that pull us toward selfishness, anger, lying, or other things that go against God’s design. Paul’s promise is powerful: when you stay connected to the Holy Spirit, you won’t be controlled by those wrong desires. It’s not about trying harder – it’s about walking closer!
Hero Challenge
Start each morning this week by saying, “Holy Spirit, guide me today. Help me follow You in every choice.” Then at the end of each day, think of one moment where you felt the Spirit helping you choose the right thing. Journal it or share it with a parent!
Did You Know?
Right after this verse, Galatians 5 lists the “fruit of the Spirit” – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the natural results of walking with the Spirit! When we stay close to God, His fruit grows in our lives automatically, just like an apple grows on a healthy tree.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Have you ever felt a little nudge inside that said “that’s not kind” or “tell the truth”? That can be the Holy Spirit helping you! Can you think of a time that happened?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What does it look like to “walk by the Spirit” at school or at home? What kinds of choices does that change?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul says walking by the Spirit is the key to not giving in to wrong desires. How is that different from just trying harder to be good through willpower alone?
