Love God With Everything You’ve Got
When Jesus was asked what the most important rule of all was, He quoted this very verse! It’s been called the greatest commandment – and it’s pretty simple, even if it’s not always easy: love God with everything in you! This mission explores Deuteronomy 6:5.
What Does Deuteronomy 6:5 Mean?
God doesn’t want just a part of your love – He wants all of it. Heart, soul, and might means your emotions, your deepest self, and your actions. This is the Shema, one of the most important declarations in the entire Bible. It tells us that loving God isn’t just a feeling – it’s a whole-life commitment. Every part of who you are gets directed toward the One who made you and loves you most!
Hero Challenge
Draw a simple outline of a person and label three sections: heart (feelings), soul (inner spirit), and might (actions/strength). In each section, write one specific way you’ll love God with that part of you this week. Put it somewhere you’ll see it every day!
Did You Know?
This verse is part of the Shema – a Hebrew word meaning “hear” or “listen.” Jewish families for thousands of years have recited the Shema morning and evening every single day. It’s one of the most memorized passages in all of history. Jesus quoted it as the greatest commandment in Matthew 22!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
God wants all of your love! Can you give God a big hug right now with your heart? What’s one way to show God you love Him today?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Loving God with all your “might” means with your actions and energy. What’s one activity or talent you have that you could use to show love to God?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Loving God with all your heart, soul, and might is a whole-life commitment. What areas of your life have you not yet fully given to God? What would it look like to bring those areas under His love?
♥ Mission Prayer
