Time for a Complete Character Costume Change!
Welcome, Faith Force Character Changers! Today, we’re learning about taking off our old lying habits like old clothes, as shared in Colossians 3:9.
Verse Of The Day:
"Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices" (Colossians 3:9)
Have you ever watched an actor completely change characters by putting on a different costume? Paul teaches us about an even more amazing transformation!
“Do not lie to each other” – this is the clear instruction about our new behavior. But notice why: “since you have taken off your old self with its practices.” When we become Christians, it’s like taking off an old costume (our old lying, selfish self) and putting on a completely new one (our new truthful, loving self).
The old costume included lying, but that doesn’t fit who we are now! Just like you wouldn’t wear dirty, torn clothes when you have clean, beautiful ones available, we don’t need to wear our old lying habits when we have new truthful ones. We’ve already “taken off” the old self – now we live like the new person we’ve become!
Old Self vs New Self Costume Cards:
Make flip cards using folded paper! On the front, draw or write “Old Self: Lies and Deceives” with dark colors. Inside, write “New Self: Speaks Truth” with bright, clean colors. Create several cards for different old habits you’re “taking off” (selfishness, meanness, dishonesty) and new habits you’re “putting on” (kindness, honesty, love). Practice flipping your cards to remember you’ve changed costumes!
Time For A Prayer:
Dear God, thank You that we have taken off our old self with its lying practices! Help us remember that lying doesn't fit who we are now as Your children. When we're tempted to lie, remind us that we're wearing new truthful costumes now. Help us live like the new people You've made us to be! Amen.
