Mission Briefing
The Old You Is Gone – Live Like It!
When you get brand new clothes, you don’t keep wearing the dirty, torn ones, right? Paul uses that same idea to explain why lying doesn’t fit who we are anymore. We’ve been made new – so let’s live like it! This mission explores Colossians 3:9.
What Does Colossians 3:9 Mean?
When someone puts their trust in Jesus, something amazing happens – the old way of living gets “put off” like a worn-out outfit. Lying was part of that old life. The “old self” was selfish, deceptive, and only cared about what it could get. But that’s not who we are anymore! We have a new self that wants to be like God – truthful, loving, and honest. Paul is reminding us to match our actions to who we truly are.
Hero Challenge
Write down one habit or action that feels like your “old self” – maybe exaggerating stories, or fibbing to get out of trouble. Then write next to it what your “new self” would do instead. Pray and ask God to help you choose the new-self way this week.
Did You Know?
Paul wrote the book of Colossians while he was in prison! Even from jail, he was encouraging other believers to live fully for God. Colossians 3 is full of practical instructions – what to stop doing and what to start doing – all because of the new life we have. Paul cared so much about how people lived that he wrote these powerful reminders even in chains.
