Mission Briefing
Getting Dressed Like a Hero of God
Every morning you get dressed and put on your clothes – but did you know that Paul says there are invisible things you should put on every day too? Things like kindness, patience, and love that make you a true hero of God! This mission explores Colossians 3:12-14.
What Does Colossians 3:12-14 Mean?
Paul is talking to people God has chosen and loved, telling them to live in a way that matches who they truly are. Compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience are not just nice qualities – they are the outfit of a person who belongs to God. And forgiveness holds it all together, because God has been so incredibly forgiving to us.
Hero Challenge
Make a “Hero’s Wardrobe” – draw or list five qualities from this passage on a piece of paper and tape it to your mirror. Each morning this week, look at the list and choose one to focus on for the day. At bedtime, tell God (or a parent) how it went!
Did You Know?
Paul wrote this letter to the church in Colossae, a city in what is now Turkey. The people there came from all different backgrounds, which sometimes caused tension. Paul knew that the only way such a diverse group could live together peacefully was by putting on these qualities every day – especially love and forgiveness.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
What is one kind thing you can “put on” today, like putting on a shirt? How will you show it to someone?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Paul says to forgive others “as the Lord has forgiven you.” How does remembering how much God has forgiven you make it easier to forgive someone else?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul says we are to put on these qualities because we are “God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved.” How does knowing your identity in God change the reason why you are kind or patient – from trying to earn something to simply living out who you are?
♥ Mission Prayer
Father, thank You for choosing me and loving me. Help me to put on kindness, patience, humility, and love today like I put on my clothes — on purpose, every morning. And when I need to forgive someone, remind me of how much You have forgiven me. Amen.
