Mission Briefing

Powered for the Long Run

Have you ever started something exciting and then wanted to quit when it got hard? Maybe it was learning an instrument, finishing a school project, or sticking with something tough. God has a special kind of power that helps you keep going – all the way to the finish line, and with a smile! This mission explores Colossians 1:11.

What Does Colossians 1:11 Mean?

Paul is praying for his friends that God would strengthen them with His powerful, glorious might – not just so they could do big amazing things, but so they could endure and be patient. “Endurance” means hanging in there when things are tough. “Patience” means staying calm while you wait. And “with joy” is the surprise twist – God doesn’t just want us to survive hard times, He wants us to have joy in them! That’s a supernatural kind of strength.

Hero Challenge

Pick one hard or boring task this week that you usually try to rush through or avoid. This time, ask God to give you His strength to do it with patience and even a joyful attitude. Notice how it feels different when you invite God into even the small, difficult moments.

Did You Know?

The city of Colossae was in what is now the country of Turkey. Paul wrote this letter to encourage a young church that was being confused by false teachers. He wanted them to know that real strength and wisdom come only from Jesus – nothing else compares.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

What is something hard that you have to keep trying at? How does it make you feel when you finally finish something hard?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

What does it mean to be patient “with joy”? Have you ever been patient but grumpy about it? How is patient-with-joy different?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Paul prays that God would strengthen them “according to His glorious might” – not just a little strength, but the same power that created the universe. How should that truth change the way you approach the hard and slow parts of your life?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, please strengthen me with Your powerful might today. Help me to endure the hard parts of life and to be patient — not grumpy — while I wait, because I know You are always working. Amen.
