The Best Finish Line Words Ever
Imagine reaching the end of your life and being able to say: I fought hard, I finished the race, and I never let go of my faith. Those are some of the most powerful words ever written – and Paul wrote them from prison, knowing his life was almost over. What would it take for you to be able to say the same thing? This mission explores 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
What Does 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Mean?
Paul uses three pictures to describe his life of faith. First, a fight – following Jesus isn’t always easy, but it’s a good fight worth fighting. Second, a race – faith is a long-distance run, not a sprint. Third, keeping the faith – staying true to Jesus all the way to the end, through everything. And his reward? A crown of righteousness from Jesus Himself. Paul isn’t boasting – he’s saying: it was worth it. Every hard day was worth it. And that crown is available to everyone who loves Jesus.
Hero Challenge
Write your own “faith finish line” statement – what you want to be able to say at the end of your life about how you followed God. Something like: “I helped others, I stayed faithful, and I always came back to God when I stumbled.” Keep it somewhere you can read it when you need a reminder of why you’re running.
Did You Know?
2 Timothy is believed to be the very last letter Paul ever wrote. He was in a Roman prison, probably facing execution, and knew his time was short. Despite that, there is no self-pity – only confidence in God and deep love for his young friend Timothy. These final words of a man who had given everything for Jesus are some of the most moving in all of Scripture.
