Mission Briefing

A Soldier Who Never Quits

Real heroes don’t quit when things get hard – they push through! Paul calls us to be like soldiers for Jesus. That doesn’t mean fighting with swords or weapons. It means being brave, staying committed, and never giving up on doing what’s right – even when it costs something. This mission explores 2 Timothy 2:3.

What Does 2 Timothy 2:3 Mean?

Paul is writing to his young friend Timothy, who was a leader in the early church. Being a follower of Jesus wasn’t easy or safe back then – people were put in prison for it! Paul uses the picture of a soldier to remind Timothy that following Jesus means being willing to endure hard things without quitting. A good soldier doesn’t run from difficulty; they stand firm because they believe in what they’re fighting for.

Hero Challenge

Think of something good that you’ve been tempted to quit – maybe being kind to someone who’s hard to like, telling the truth when it’s uncomfortable, or sticking with something God is calling you to do. This week, be a “soldier” and don’t quit. Ask God for the courage to keep going one more day.

Did You Know?

Roman soldiers were famous for their incredible discipline and training. They carried heavy equipment, marched long distances, and never abandoned their post. Paul had seen these soldiers up close – he was often escorted by them or chained to them! He used their dedication as a picture of the commitment God wants from us.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

What does a soldier do when a battle gets hard – do they run away or keep going? What can you keep going with even when it’s hard?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

What are some things that make it hard to follow Jesus and do the right thing? How can you stay strong in those moments?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Paul says to “share in suffering” – not just tolerate it. What do you think it means to embrace difficulty as part of following Jesus, and what would that look like for you this week?

♥ Mission Prayer

Jesus, help me to be a brave soldier for You — someone who doesn't quit when things get hard or uncomfortable. Give me the strength to keep standing for what's right, even when it costs me something. Amen.
