Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Mission Briefing

You Are Brand New!

Have you ever wished you could start completely over – a total fresh start, no mistakes carried over? That is exactly what God promises to every person who puts their trust in Jesus. Not just a little improvement – a brand new creation! This mission explores 2 Corinthians 5:17.

What Does 2 Corinthians 5:17 Mean?

Paul says that anyone who is “in Christ” – meaning anyone who has trusted Jesus and walks with Him – is a new creation. Not a slightly improved version of their old self, but something entirely new. The old patterns, the old guilt, the old identity defined by mistakes – it has passed away. God does not just forgive us and leave us the same; He makes us into someone new from the inside out. That is one of the most breathtaking truths in the entire Bible.

Hero Challenge

Take a piece of paper and write down one old label or old habit you have been carrying around – something you want to leave in the past. Then tear it up and throw it away as a symbol of what Jesus does with the old. On a fresh piece of paper, write who you are now: “I am a new creation in Christ.” Keep that second paper.

Did You Know?

The Greek word for “new creation” here is not just “renovated” – it is the same word used for God creating the world in the beginning. Paul is saying that being in Christ is as dramatic as creation itself. When God makes you new in Jesus, it is not a touch-up; it is a Genesis-level event happening in your heart.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Have you ever gotten a brand new toy or piece of clothing? How does brand new feel compared to old and worn out? Jesus makes us brand new on the inside!

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

If you are a new creation in Christ, do you think you should keep living by your old habits and old way of thinking? What might need to change?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Sometimes even after trusting Jesus, people still feel stuck in old patterns or old identities. Knowing that God declares you a new creation, how can you start choosing to live from that new identity instead of the old one?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that in You I am not just a little bit better — I am a brand new creation! Help me to leave the old behind and step fully into the new person You have made me. When I am tempted to go back to old habits or old labels, remind me: the old has passed away, and the new has come. Amen.
