1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Mission Briefing

The Most Epic Reunion Ever

Close your eyes and imagine a trumpet blast so loud it shakes the sky, a shout from Heaven, and then – zoom – believers everywhere rising up into the clouds to meet Jesus. This is one of the most epic moments described in the whole Bible! This mission explores 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.

What Does 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 Mean?

Paul is describing what will happen when Jesus returns. It won’t be quiet or hidden – it will be announced with a commanding shout and the blast of God’s trumpet! Those who trusted in Jesus and have already died will rise first, and then believers who are still alive will be caught up in the air to meet the Lord. The most important part? “We will always be with the Lord.” Forever. No more goodbyes.

Hero Challenge

Paul wrote this to comfort people who were sad about loved ones who had died believing in Jesus. This week, if you know someone who is grieving or sad, share the comfort of this verse with them. You can also write a prayer for someone you love who is no longer here.

Did You Know?

The believers in Thessalonica were worried because some of their friends and family members had died, and they feared those people would miss out on Jesus’ return. Paul wrote this letter specifically to comfort them with the truth that those who died in faith will actually rise FIRST – they won’t miss a single thing! Paul wanted them to “encourage one another with these words.”

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

How do you feel knowing that one day you will get to be with Jesus forever and ever?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why do you think Paul described Jesus’ return as so loud and dramatic instead of quiet and secret?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Paul says this truth should be used to “encourage one another.” How can knowing about Jesus’ return actually change how you comfort someone who is sad about losing a loved one?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise that one day You will come back and we will be with You forever. Help me hold onto this hope on hard days and use it to encourage the people around me. Amen.
