Mission Briefing
Love That Shows Up in Real Life
It’s easy to say “I love you” – but what does love actually look like in action? John has a challenge for us: stop just talking about love and start living it out in real, practical ways! This mission explores 1 John 3:18.
What Does 1 John 3:18 Mean?
John is saying that real love isn’t just words – it shows up in what we actually do. “In deed” means taking action, doing something real. “In truth” means it’s genuine – not fake or for show. Anyone can say kind things; the real test of love is whether we back up our words with our actions. Does the love you say you have for others show up in the way you treat them?
Hero Challenge
Pick one person you love and do something for them this week that you don’t announce or get credit for – a quiet act of kindness or service. Real love doesn’t always need an audience. Notice how it feels to love someone in deed and truth rather than just words.
Did You Know?
John was known as the “apostle of love” – he talked about love more than any other writer in the New Testament. But notice that he didn’t just tell people to feel love – he told them to do love. Just before this verse, he points to Jesus giving His life as the ultimate example of real, active love. That’s the standard he calls us to!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Can we show love by helping someone? (Yes! Actions show love!)
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What is the difference between saying you love someone and showing you love someone?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Is there someone in your life whose love you mostly hear but rarely see in action? How does that make you feel? How can you make sure that’s not how others experience your love?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, help my love to be real and active — not just words, but actions. Show me specific ways to love the people around me in deed and in truth today. Amen.
