Mission Briefing
Love in Action
It’s easy to say “I love you” – but real love does something! John gives us a powerful challenge: don’t just talk about love, actually show it. Let’s see what that looks like in real life. This mission explores 1 John 3:17-18.
What Does 1 John 3:17-18 Mean?
John is asking a really important question: if we see someone who needs help and we have the ability to help them, but we walk away – does God’s love really live in us? He’s saying that love isn’t just a feeling or nice words. Real love rolls up its sleeves and does something. Helping someone in need is one of the biggest ways we show that God’s love is alive in us.
Hero Challenge
Look around this week – is there someone at school, in your neighborhood, or even in your own home who has a need you could meet? It might be sharing your lunch, donating a toy, or simply spending time with someone who feels lonely. Do one concrete act of love this week, not just words.
Did You Know?
John, who wrote this letter, was also called “the disciple Jesus loved” – he was known for being especially close to Jesus. He spent years watching Jesus turn love into action every single day. No wonder he wrote so powerfully about what real love looks like!
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Can you think of something kind you can DO for someone today, not just say?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What’s the difference between saying “I love you” and actually showing love? Which one do you think matters more, and why?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
John says closing your heart to someone in need means God’s love isn’t truly in you. That’s strong! Do you think he’s being too harsh, or is he right? How does this challenge the way you live?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, help me love in deed and in truth, not just with words. Open my eyes to the people around me who have needs I can meet. Give me a generous and courageous heart to actually do something about it. Amen.
