Mission Briefing
Walking in the Light
Have you ever tried to walk through a dark room and kept bumping into things? Living without God can feel a lot like that. But when we walk in His light, everything becomes clearer – and we never have to walk alone! This mission explores 1 John 1:7-9.
What Does 1 John 1:7-9 Mean?
John tells us that when we live honestly before God – being real about who we are, including our mistakes – something amazing happens. We get to stay close to God and to other believers. And the best part? When we admit our sins and ask for forgiveness, God promises to forgive us every single time, because He is faithful and just. No sin is too big for His grace.
Hero Challenge
Before you go to bed each night this week, take one minute to be honest with God. Tell Him one thing you did that was not right, and thank Him for forgiving you. Then remind yourself: you are clean in His eyes!
Did You Know?
In Bible times, “walking in the light” was a well-understood picture of living honestly and openly, with nothing to hide. John uses this image to show that our relationship with God works best when we stop hiding our mistakes and bring them into His light instead. That is where healing and forgiveness happen.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
When you do something wrong, does it feel better to tell the truth or to hide it? Why?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Why do you think John says that pretending we have no sin is deceiving ourselves? What happens when we are not honest with God or ourselves?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
How does regularly confessing your mistakes to God change the way you feel about yourself and your relationship with Him? Can you think of a time when being honest brought you closer to God or someone else?
♥ Mission Prayer
Father, thank You that I do not have to hide anything from You. You already know my heart, and You still love me. Help me to walk in Your light today, being honest about my mistakes and trusting You to forgive and clean me up. Amen.
