Mission Briefing
Run to Win!
Have you ever watched a race and wondered what it takes to WIN? Paul uses that exact picture to teach us something powerful about how to live a faith-filled life – and the prize waiting at the end is better than any trophy you’ve ever seen!
What Does This Mean?
In Paul’s time, athletes trained hard and competed for a simple laurel wreath – a crown made of leaves that would eventually wither and die. But Paul says we’re running for a prize that NEVER fades! The key to winning? Self-control – which means making wise choices even when you don’t feel like it. Whether it’s getting enough sleep, being kind when you’re grumpy, or choosing good habits, self-control is the training that prepares a faith hero for victory!
Hero Challenge
Pick one area to practice self-control this week – like screen time, food choices, or how quickly you react when you’re frustrated. Treat it like an athlete in training! At the end of the week, reflect on how that discipline helped you grow.
Did You Know?
The Isthmian Games – similar to the Olympics – were held near Corinth, the city Paul was writing to! The people reading this letter knew EXACTLY what intense athletic training looked like. Paul was speaking their language to point them to something even greater: a life lived fully for God.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If you were in a race, would you walk slowly or run your very best? God wants us to give our best for Him too!
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What is one thing you could practice being more self-controlled about this week? How does that help you in your faith life?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul compares faith life to athletic training. What habits or disciplines do you think a “faith athlete” needs to build, and which ones are you working on?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, help me to run my faith race with everything I have. Give me self-control so I can make wise choices every day. I want to win the prize that lasts forever — a life lived close to You! Amen.
