Every Part Matters: You Are Part of the Team!
Think about what would happen if your whole body was just one giant eyeball – no hands, no feet, no ears. Pretty useless, right? Paul uses this hilarious picture to explain something amazing about God’s family: every single person matters, and we all need each other!
What Does This Mean?
Paul is explaining that all believers – no matter where they come from or what they look like – are part of one body: the body of Christ. Just like a human body needs many different parts to work, God’s family needs many different kinds of people with different gifts and backgrounds. No one is more important than another, and no one is unnecessary. You are a needed part of this team!
Hero Challenge
Think about three people in your life who are very different from you. Write down one thing you appreciate about each of them – a gift, a personality trait, or a way they help. Then tell at least one of those people what you wrote. You are celebrating how God designed the body!
Did You Know?
The church in Corinth was a very diverse group – it included people from very different social classes, ethnic backgrounds, and cultures. Some members thought they were more important than others because of their background or gifts. Paul wrote this letter to remind them that in God’s family, no one gets to be “just the eyeball.” Everyone is essential.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
What is your favourite part of your body and what does it do? Why do you think God made all the different parts?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Can you think of a gift or ability you have that helps other people? How do you think God wants you to use it?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Paul says everyone from every background is part of one body. How does this change the way we should treat people who are different from us – at school, online, or in our community?
♥ Mission Prayer
Lord, thank You for making every person different and important. Help me appreciate the people around me who are different from me, and help me play my part in Your family well. Amen.
