Psalms 27:4

19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
Psalms 27:4

Mission Briefing

The One Thing That Matters Most

If you could only ask God for ONE thing, what would it be? A million dollars? Superpowers? David – who was a king and a warrior hero – said the one thing he wanted more than anything else was simply to be close to God. That tells us something incredible about what matters most! This mission explores Psalms 27:4.

What Does Psalms 27:4 Mean?

David had enemies chasing him, armies to lead, and a whole kingdom to manage. But he said the ONE thing his heart longed for most was to stay in God’s presence every day of his life. “Dwell” means to live there, not just visit. “Gaze upon the beauty of the Lord” means to keep looking at who God is – His goodness, His love, His greatness – until it fills your whole heart.

Hero Challenge

This week, make a “beauty of the Lord” list. Each day, write down one thing you notice about who God is – His kindness, His creativity in nature, His faithfulness in your life. By the end of the week, you’ll have a whole collection of reasons to love being close to Him.

Did You Know?

David wrote Psalm 27 during a time when he was facing real danger from enemies. Yet even in the middle of fear and danger, what he wanted most was God’s presence – not protection, not victory, not riches. That kind of priority is exactly what made David a man after God’s own heart.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

David loved being near God more than anything. What is one thing you love about God that makes you want to be close to Him?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Why do you think David chose being with God as his “one thing” instead of asking for safety from his enemies? What does that show about what he trusted?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

If someone looked at your daily life – how you spend your time and energy – what would they say your “one thing” is? How close is that to what David’s one thing was, and what would it look like to make God your greatest priority?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord, I want to know You more than I want anything else. Teach me to love spending time in Your presence and to see how beautiful You are. Help me make You my "one thing" every single day. Amen.
