Mission Briefing
We Trust in GOD – Not in Stuff!
In Bible times, chariots and horses were the most powerful weapons around – like tanks and fighter jets today! But King David knew something even more powerful than any weapon: the name of the LORD. What do YOU trust in when things get tough? This mission explores Psalms 20:7.
What Does Psalms 20:7 Mean?
This psalm was written before a battle, and David was saying that no matter how powerful the enemy’s army looked, God was MORE powerful. “Trusting in chariots” is a picture for anything we rely on instead of God – money, technology, talent, or popular people. But “the name of the LORD” means God’s character, His power, and all His promises. When we trust IN HIM, we stand on something that never fails!
Hero Challenge
Think about one thing you tend to rely on to make you feel safe or strong – maybe how smart you are, how many friends you have, or something you own. This week, practice thanking God instead of leaning on that thing, and tell Him: “I trust in Your name!”
Did You Know?
In the ancient world, a king’s “name” wasn’t just what people called him – it represented his reputation, character, and power. So when David says he trusts in “the name of the LORD,” he’s saying he trusts in everything God IS – His goodness, His strength, His faithfulness. That’s a very big deal!

When you are scared, who do you call for help? Did you know God is always ready to hear you?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What are some “chariots and horses” – things people trust in today instead of God? Why can’t those things really save us?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
David wrote this before going into battle. How does trusting in God’s name instead of your own strength change the way you face challenges in your own life?
♥ Mission Prayer
God, I don't want to trust in stuff or my own abilities more than I trust in You. Help me to remember that Your name — who You are — is my greatest strength. I choose to trust in YOU today! Amen.
