Mission Briefing

The Greatest Commandment Ever

If you could only follow one rule for your whole life, what would you choose? A religious leader once asked Jesus that exact question – and Jesus gave an answer that changed everything! This mission explores Matthew 22:37.

What Does Matthew 22:37 Mean?

When Jesus says to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, He is saying that loving God is not just a Sunday activity – it is everything. Your heart is where your deepest feelings live. Your soul is the real you on the inside. Your mind is how you think and make decisions. Jesus wants all three pointed toward God – every part of who you are, all day long. That kind of total love is what a real relationship with God looks like.

Hero Challenge

For three days in a row, pick one part of you to focus on: Day 1 – love God with your heart (worship or pray from your feelings). Day 2 – love God with your soul (do one thing that honors who you really are in Him). Day 3 – love God with your mind (read a passage and think deeply about what it means). Write one sentence after each day about how it went.

Did You Know?

Jesus was quoting a famous passage from Deuteronomy 6:5 – a verse that Jewish families recited every single morning and every night. It was called the Shema, which means “Hear” in Hebrew. Jesus was reminding people that this ancient command was still the most important thing: love God with everything you have.

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

How do you show someone you love them – like a parent or a friend? Can you think of one way to show God you love Him today?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Loving God with your “mind” means thinking about Him during the day. What is one moment today when you could think about God instead of just going through the motions?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

Jesus said the greatest commandment is love – not rules, not performance, not religion. How does that shift the way you think about following God? What does a life led by love look like versus a life led by a checklist?

♥ Mission Prayer

God, I want to love You with my whole heart, my whole soul, and my whole mind — not just part of me, but all of me. Help me to think about You during my day and to make choices that come from love for You rather than just trying to follow rules. Amen.
