Mission Briefing
The Greatest Hero Serves!
In most hero stories, the greatest hero gets the most fame, the biggest throne, and everyone serving them. But Jesus turned that idea completely upside down! The greatest hero of all came to SERVE – not to be served. Are you ready for this mission? This mission explores Matthew 20:28.
What Does Matthew 20:28 Mean?
The disciples had been arguing about who would be the greatest in God’s kingdom – basically, who would be the boss! Jesus stopped them and said the real question is: who will serve the most? He called Himself the “Son of Man” and pointed to His own life as the example. Jesus, the King of all kings, came to earth to wash feet, heal the sick, and ultimately give His life as a “ransom” – paying the price to set us free from sin.
Hero Challenge
True heroes serve without being asked! This week, find one way each day to serve someone before they ask – set the table, carry bags for someone, help a younger kid learn something new, or do a kind deed for a neighbor. Remember: the greatest heroes are the greatest servants!
Did You Know?
A “ransom” was a payment made to free someone who had been captured or enslaved. In Jesus’s day, everyone knew exactly what that word meant! By using it, Jesus was saying that His death would be the payment that buys freedom for all of us who were trapped in sin. It’s the most generous act of service in all of history.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Jesus helped lots of people every day. What is one way YOU can help someone today, just like Jesus did?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
The disciples wanted to be the greatest. Why do you think Jesus said serving others is what makes someone truly great?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Jesus gave His life as a “ransom for many” – the ultimate act of service. How does understanding this sacrifice change the way you think about serving others, even when it’s hard or inconvenient?
♥ Mission Prayer
