Mission Briefing
Every Good Thing Comes From God!
Think about the best things in your life – your favorite people, the things that make you laugh, the moments that feel like pure joy. Where did all of that come from? James has an answer, and it is a beautiful one: every single good and perfect gift comes from God. Every single one! This mission explores James 1:17.
What Does James 1:17 Mean?
God is called the “Father of lights” – like the creator of every star and every beam of sunshine. And unlike the sun, which rises and sets and sometimes hides behind clouds, God never changes. There is no “shadow due to change” in Him – He is always good, always giving, always the same. That means every good thing you enjoy is His gift to you, and you can always trust that He will keep being good because He never shifts.
Hero Challenge
Start a “Good Gifts List” this week. Each day, write down three good things you noticed – big or small – and say thank You to the Father of lights for each one. By the end of the week you will have 21 reasons to be grateful, and your eyes will be trained to spot God’s goodness everywhere.
Did You Know?
James was the brother of Jesus, and he wrote this letter as a very practical guide to living out real faith. He wanted people to stop blaming God when things went wrong and to recognize clearly that God is the source of everything good. This verse is his declaration: God is not the author of bad things – He is the giver of every perfect gift.

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What does it mean that God has “no variation or shadow due to change”? Why is that important?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
When something bad happens, people sometimes blame God. How does James 1:17 help us think more clearly about where good and bad things actually come from?
