Mission Briefing
From Enemies to Family
Imagine being on the wrong team your whole life, then suddenly being invited to join the winning side – not because you earned it, but because someone paid the price for you. That’s exactly what Jesus did, and Paul wants to make sure you never forget it! This mission explores Colossians 1:20-22.
What Does Colossians 1:20-22 Mean?
Paul is reminding the believers in Colossae of what they used to be: alienated (cut off) from God, hostile in their minds, doing evil things. But now – through Jesus’ death – God has changed all of that. He presents them as holy, blameless, and above reproach. That means when God looks at you through Jesus, He sees someone completely clean. Not because you’re perfect, but because Jesus already paid for your wrongs.
Hero Challenge
Write down on a piece of paper one thing you’re ashamed of or one way you feel like you’re “not good enough.” Then draw a cross over it and write: “Holy, Blameless, Above Reproach” – because that’s what God says about you in Jesus. Keep it somewhere you’ll see it when you need the reminder.
Did You Know?
The words “holy, blameless, and above reproach” were legal terms in the ancient world – used in a courtroom to say someone was completely innocent with no charges against them. Paul is saying that because of Jesus, God drops all the charges! You walk out of the courtroom totally free. That’s the gospel in action.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
Jesus makes us clean and good in God’s eyes because He loves us so much. Can you give Jesus a big “thank You” for that right now?
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
What does it mean to be “presented holy and blameless” before God? How does knowing that make you feel about yourself?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
If God sees you as holy and blameless because of Jesus, how should that change the way you think about your mistakes? And how should it change the way you see others who mess up?
♥ Mission Prayer
Thank You, Jesus, that because of You, God sees me as holy and clean. Help me to live in that truth and to treat others as people You love and died for too. Amen.
