The Ultimate Race Strategy: Eyes on Jesus!
Welcome, Faith Force Jesus-Focused Runners! Today, we’re learning the most important race strategy ever – how to run life’s race with our eyes completely focused on Jesus, as shared in Hebrews 12:1-2.
Verse Of The Day:
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2)
Have you ever tried running while carrying heavy bags or looking behind you? It’s impossible to run well! This passage gives us the perfect race strategy.
First: “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” Just like runners remove heavy clothes and anything that slows them down, we need to remove anything that makes following Jesus harder – bad attitudes, selfish choices, or distractions that pull us away from God.
Second: “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” The secret is WHERE we look while running! Jesus is “the pioneer and perfecter of faith” – He blazed the trail ahead of us and will help us finish strong. When we keep our eyes on Jesus instead of our problems or distractions, we can run this race with incredible endurance!
Jesus Focus Trail Markers:
Create “Jesus Focus Trail Markers” using wooden stakes or cardboard strips! Make bright arrows pointing forward with pictures of Jesus attached. Set up a trail course in your yard or house, placing your markers along the path. Practice “running your race” by following the trail while keeping your eyes on Jesus’ picture on each marker. Create an “Obstacles Removed” box where you can write down things that hinder your spiritual race (like selfishness, worry, or bad attitudes) and symbolically throw them away. This trains you to focus on Jesus while removing hindrances!
Time For A Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank You for being the pioneer and perfecter of our faith! Help us throw off everything that hinders us and run with perseverance the race You've marked out for us. When we get distracted or want to give up, help us fix our eyes on You. Thank You for enduring the cross so we can run this race with hope and joy. Keep our focus always on You! Amen.
