Right Living: Practicing Righteousness Like Jesus

Welcome, Faith Force Truth Defenders! Today, we’re discovering what it means to be righteous and follow Jesus’ example, as taught in 1 John 3:7.

Verse Of The Day:

"Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous." (1 John 3:7)

Have you ever followed someone who took a wrong turn and ended up lost? In 1 John 3:7, the apostle John warns us not to let anyone lead us astray—or in the wrong direction—about what it means to follow Jesus.

This verse begins with “Dear children,” showing how much John cared about the people he was writing to. Just like a loving parent warns their children about danger, John wanted to protect believers from confusion about what it means to be righteous.

John gives us a simple but powerful truth: “The one who does what is right is righteous.” This means that being righteous isn’t just about what we believe or say—it’s about what we do! Real righteousness shows up in our actions and choices.

Notice that John adds “just as he is righteous,” comparing our righteousness to Jesus’ righteousness. Jesus always did what was right, showing perfect love, kindness, honesty, and obedience to God. When we try to live like Jesus did, doing what is right even when it’s difficult, we’re practicing true righteousness.

Some people in John’s time were teaching that what you did didn’t matter as long as you had special knowledge about God. But John makes it clear: if we really follow Jesus, our lives will show it through right actions. We can’t claim to be righteous if we keep choosing to do what’s wrong!

Let’s be people who not only know what’s right but actually do what’s right, following Jesus’ perfect example!

"Right Choice Reminder" Bracelet:

Create a simple bracelet using string or yarn and beads (or paper beads you make by rolling up small strips of paper). Choose beads in two different colors. One color represents “What would Jesus do?” and the other represents “I will do what is right.” As you add each bead, talk about specific right choices you can make this week (like telling the truth, being kind, sharing, obeying parents, etc.). Wear your bracelet as a reminder to practice righteousness by doing what Jesus would do!

Time For A Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to show us what righteousness looks like. Help us not to be led astray by wrong ideas or bad examples. Give us strength to do what is right, even when it's hard. We want our actions to match our beliefs, showing that we truly follow You. Help us to be righteous in our words and actions, just as Jesus is righteous. Amen.

Choose what’s right, Faith Force Truth Defenders! Until our next Divine Dispatch, remember that true righteousness means doing what is right, just as Jesus did. Let’s not be led astray but keep following His perfect example!
