Jesus' Mission: Good News for Everyone
Welcome, Faith Force Freedom Bringers! Today, we’re discovering Jesus’ amazing mission on earth, as He described it in Luke 4:18-19.
Verse Of The Day:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." (Luke 4:18-19)
Imagine going to your hometown and standing up in front of everyone to announce exactly why you came to earth! That’s what Jesus did when He read these powerful words in the synagogue in Nazareth. This was Jesus’ mission statement—His big explanation of why He came to us!
First, Jesus says “The Spirit of the Lord is on me.” This shows that God’s power was with Jesus for His special mission. Then Jesus explains five amazing parts of His mission:
- “To proclaim good news to the poor” – Jesus came to bring a wonderful message of hope to those who have little.
- “To proclaim freedom for the prisoners” – Jesus releases people who are trapped by sin and wrong choices.
- “Recovery of sight for the blind” – Jesus heals both physical blindness and spiritual blindness, helping people see God’s truth.
- “To set the oppressed free” – Jesus lifts the heavy burdens from those who are weighed down and mistreated.
- “To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” – Jesus announces that God’s special time of blessing and forgiveness has arrived!
Let’s look for ways to be like Jesus today, bringing good news, freedom, healing, and God’s favor to everyone around us!
"Jesus' Mission" Helping Hands:
Trace your hand on a piece of paper and cut it out. On each finger, write one part of Jesus’ mission from Luke 4:18-19 (Good News, Freedom, Sight, Release, Favor). On the palm, write “Spirit of the Lord.” Decorate your hand and on the back, write specific ways you can help with Jesus’ mission (like sharing with someone who has less, being kind to someone who feels trapped, helping someone understand God’s truth, standing up for someone who’s treated unfairly, or telling others about God’s love). Display your hand to remember how you can be part of Jesus’ mission!
Time For A Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your amazing mission to bring good news, freedom, healing, and God's favor to everyone. Thank You for including us in Your work! Give us Your Spirit so we can share Your good news with others. Help us to bring Your freedom to those who feel trapped, Your light to those who can't see the truth, and Your love to those who feel forgotten. Use us to continue Your mission in our world today. Amen.
