19 October 2025 · Hero Mission
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.
1 Peter 3:18

Mission Briefing

Jesus Suffered So We Could Be Brought Close to God!

Nobody likes to suffer. But Jesus chose to go through the hardest thing imaginable – and He did it on purpose, for us. That one act of sacrifice changed every single thing about our relationship with God! This mission explores 1 Peter 3:18.

What Does 1 Peter 3:18 Mean?

Peter explains the reason Jesus died: He was the righteous One – the only One who was truly good – who suffered in place of all the unrighteous ones (that’s us!). The goal was not just forgiveness but something even bigger: bringing us TO God – close, connected, right with Him. And the story doesn’t end at the cross. Jesus was made alive in spirit, pointing to His resurrection and the new life He gives everyone who trusts Him!

Hero Challenge

Spend five minutes this week sitting quietly and thinking about what it means that Jesus brought YOU to God. Not to a far-off, distant God, but close – like a child running to a father. Then write one word that describes how that makes you feel and tuck it somewhere you’ll find it later.

Did You Know?

Peter wrote his first letter to believers who were scattered across different regions and going through real suffering themselves. He pointed them to Jesus – not to say “suffering is fun” but to say “look at what Jesus went through, and look at what came out of it.” Jesus’ suffering had a purpose, and so does ours. Nothing is ever wasted in God’s hands!

Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question

Jesus went through something very hard so that you could be close to God. Does knowing that make you want to talk to God today?

Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question

Peter says Jesus died “once for sins” – just once, and it was enough for everyone, forever. Why do you think that is so important and amazing?

Ages 10-13: Champion Question

1 Peter 3:18 says Christ suffered so we could be “brought to God.” What does it mean practically to be brought close to God – and how should that closeness show up in your everyday life?

♥ Mission Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for suffering so that I could be brought close to God. That closeness is the greatest gift I could ever receive. Help me to treasure it and live each day in the warmth of Your presence.
