Mission Briefing
The Price That Set You Free
In adventure stories, heroes sometimes risk everything to rescue someone. Jesus did not just risk something – He gave everything. And what He paid to set you free was more precious than all the gold in the world! This mission explores 1 Peter 1:18-19.
What Does 1 Peter 1:18-19 Mean?
Peter uses the word “ransomed” – which means paying a price to set someone free. We were stuck in a cycle of wrong choices and empty living, and no amount of money could buy our way out. But Jesus paid the price with His own life – His precious blood – so that we could be truly free. He was called “a lamb without blemish or spot” because He was completely perfect, which made His sacrifice powerful enough to rescue everyone who believes.
Hero Challenge
Find an old coin and hold it in your hand. Think about this: not silver, not gold, nothing money can buy could set you free – only Jesus could do it. Keep the coin somewhere this week as a reminder that your freedom cost Jesus everything, and it was worth it to Him because you are worth it to Him.
Did You Know?
The image of a “lamb without blemish” would have been very familiar to people in Peter’s time. In the Old Testament, a perfect, spotless lamb was offered as a sacrifice for sin. Peter is saying Jesus was the ultimate, final lamb – the One all those sacrifices were pointing to. His one sacrifice was enough for everyone, forever.
Ages 4-6: Little Hero Question
If you were lost and someone came all the way to find you and bring you home, how would you feel? That is something like what Jesus did for you!
Ages 7-9: Growing Hero Question
Peter says we were “ransomed” – set free by a price being paid. What do you think it means for your daily life that Jesus already paid that price for you?
Ages 10-13: Champion Question
Jesus’s blood is described as more precious than gold. How does knowing the enormous price of your freedom change how you think about the choices you make every day?
♥ Mission Prayer
Jesus, thank You for paying the highest price of all to set me free. I was not ransomed with silver or gold — I was ransomed with Your precious life. Help me to live every day like someone who knows they are free and deeply loved. Amen.
